ROCHESTER GIANTS HISTORY

In 2003 the Rochester Giants came to life under the ownership of Joe Ties and General Manager Rick Ties.  Their desire to run a classy, hard-hitting organization and ability to recruit some of the best ballers around has lead to GPFL League championships in 2003 and 2004.  

The Giants have continued to grow from year to year but still rely heavily on numerous dedicated volunteers; namely family members, Emily Colbenson (administrator), Tom Ties (delivers play-by-play), Sheryl and Cassidy Ties (run ticket and merchandise sales), Donna Ties and Joani LaClair (work the concession stands), Luke Ties (runs the scoreboard), as well as many others who help to make the organization a success and each game exciting.  It also is vital that we mention our wonderful sponsors, without whom we could not provide the quality football games that we pride ourselves on.  Thank You!

In the first year of competition under the Ties’ ownership, the Giants had record of 12-1 and ended the season as GPFL league champions. Fans also caught wind of the excellent football being played down at Soldiers Field on Saturday nights, and attendance was at an all-time high by the end of the season. In 2004, the Giants had a record of 13-0 and a repeat championship.  The Giants moved from being a new team to a dominating force to be reckoned with. 

The 2005 season saw the Giants in a Three-peat, having won their third straight GPFL Championship.  With only one loss on the season, the Rochester Giants once again proved their ability to consistently play and win big games.  With talent at an all-time high, they continued to draw larger crowds and fans familiarized themselves with the Giants dominating every Saturday at Soldiers Field.

The 2007 season ended in the Giants extending their dynasty with a 5th straight GPFL Championship.

In 2008 the Giants played and independent schedule of games and were not affiliated with any league.  The Giants also got a new home at the brand new Rochester Regional Stadium and had the honor of playing the very first football game at the stadium.  Due to numerous injuries the Giants did not have the kind of year that they have been used to, but never backed down from any opponent or challenge.

In 2009 the Giants joined a league called the NPFL (northern power football league) and finished with a 6-3 record after playing in the leagues championship game.  Following this season the Giants organization vowed to do everything to improve the quality of the team, league they play in and their awareness in the local communities.  We ARE Rochester’s Semi-Pro football team and we will represent Rochester in a positive and successful manner on and off the field!

Now the 2010 season is upon us and the Giants are ready to take back their rightful place at the top of the league.  The Giants have joined a new league this year called the NEFL and are looking to dominate this league as they did the GPFL in the past.  Come out and support the Rochester Giants at any of our home games.
